Environmental Impact Assessment

Environmental Impact Assessment

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is another flagship service by Telaplan International, distinct yet overlapping with ESIA in scope. While ESIA encompasses both environmental and social dimensions in an integrated format, traditional EIA places greater emphasis on the biophysical impacts of development projects, especially as required by Kenya’s regulatory framework for projects with relatively moderate potential impacts.

Telaplan’s EIA services are especially vital for developments in urban environments, peri-urban growth areas, and small-to-medium-scale industrial and commercial facilities. These include developments such as petrol stations, residential apartment complexes, educational institutions, shopping centers, and construction yards.

The EIA process commences with project data collection and desktop studies to understand the receiving environment. This is followed by detailed field investigations, during which the team conducts air quality measurements, noise level monitoring, water sampling, flora/fauna inventories, and soil profiling. Telaplan leverages partnerships with accredited laboratories to obtain high-precision data, which feeds directly into the EIA report.

One of the key strengths of Telaplan’s EIA approach is risk anticipation and design-level feedback. Rather than treating the EIA as an isolated report, Telaplan collaborates closely with project designers, architects, engineers, and planners to optimize layout, drainage systems, waste handling, and green building elements in line with assessment findings. This iterative process minimizes the likelihood of environmental non-compliance during implementation.

Once the analysis is complete, Telaplan prepares and submits the EIA Project Report or Full Study Report to NEMA, depending on the project risk category. The firm provides end-to-end support, including fee payments, document processing, and coordinating with NEMA officials during site inspections and license issuance.

Additionally, Telaplan ensures that every EIA includes a Project Risk Register, Emergency Response Plan (ERP), Waste Management Strategy, and Environmental Monitoring Framework, making the report actionable, not just compliant.

Telaplan has facilitated numerous successful EIA approvals within the stipulated statutory timelines, thanks to its mastery of NEMA procedures and professional diligence. Their deep understanding of county-level development regulations, including building codes and zoning plans, further strengthens the relevance and acceptance of their reports by both regulators and clients.
